West Lafayette company moves into European market

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A West Lafayette aviation fuel company announced a major expansion into the European market.

Swift Fuels CEO Chris D'Acosta announced Friday the company is buying a 50 percent stake in a German firm, Swift Fuel GmbH.

Almost two years ago, News 18 reported on its breakthrough of aviation fuel that was both environmentally friendly and more efficient.

News 18 spoke to D'Acosta via Skype where D'Acosta is still in Germany.

He said after more than two years of work he hopes the fuel will be production-certified by the FAA in the next few months. The announced acquisition gives the German company the intellectual property and tech knowledge, while giving the Purdue Research Park-based company strength and coverage for new markets.

"We have a stake," said D'Acosta. "We have a half interest in what they do, so it gives us additional coverage that we really need at this time to further our growth."

He added once the fuel is certified, it can be quite profitable in Europe where aviation fuel is about twice as expensive as it is in America.
