West Lafayette begins leaf curbside pick-up

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - As fast as the leaves turn colors, they will begin to fall. In West Lafayette, now is the time to rake your leaves to the curb, and leave them for the street department to sweep up.

From October until December the street department will sweep up leaves left on the curb. After December you must put them in a container to be picked up.

West Lafayette Street Commissioner David Downey said there is one important thing to know when raking your leaves.

"When you rake them to the curb, just pile them along the curb line, about a foot from the curb itself," Downey said. "That way the water can run behind them, and get to the catch basin if it rains before we get them picked up."

Downey said all the leaves picked up will be composted. He asks only leaves are brushed to the curb, and try to avoid getting any sticks or yard objects in the piles to be picked up.
