WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - It's the day most children dread and many parents cheer -- the first day of school.  It may be to tough for some to believe, but it's right around the corner.

But not all area families can afford to buy the back-to-school supplies that their child needs.

That's where the annual Tools for School campaign steps in, sponsored by WLFI and the Salvation Army.

There's a blue drop box at Sigma Medical Group, along with all area Regions banks, Subway restaurants and Pay Less grocery stores.  Last year, 800 children were helped through the program.

"It's important because it's going to help the kids get to school," said Sigma Medical group employee Laura Evans.  "It's going to have them prepared for their classes so they aren't falling behind in what they need to do."

Donations will be collected until August 3, which is a week from Friday.  The supplies will be handed out August 11.
