Walk raises money for Juvenile Diabetes

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - More than 300 people showed up for the first ever Walk for Juvenile Diabetes event on Saturday at Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette.

The event was sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and raised money for diabetes research.

The day included  speeches from Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski and Juvenile Diabetes patients, friends, and family members. Walk for Juvenile Diabetes Chairperson Lori Teibel has a daughter with juvenile diabetes. She said walks like this prove to be a great support system.

"Sometimes you forget that there are other people out there that are struggling just like you are everyday," said Teibel. "It really is a great way to meet other people who can relate to you. It is just a good sense of support."

Teibel said the turnout was more that she expected. She is optimistic they will reach their fundraising goal of $30,000.
