Vice presidential candidate stops in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Libertarian vice presidential candidate made a stop in Lafayette Monday. 

Judge Jim Gray is the running mate of former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson.  Judge Gray and the Johnson campaign dropped by the Lafayette Brewing Company to talk to voters as part of a tour of the Midwest.             

Gray said he met the former governor in 1999 when both men spoke out against the country's drug policy.  The vice presidential candidate said he and his running mate are focusing on jobs, education, and the economy. 

Gray said they want to repeal the income tax, allow parents to choose where education money is spent, and significantly reduce government spending.

“People must understand the federal government, for every dollar it's spending, it is borrowing 43 cents.  That is not sustainable for a company, for a household, and certainly not for a country.  That must be stopped. And we are going to submit a balanced budget to Congress by reducing this obese government spending,” said Gray.              

Judge Gray said he hopes his ticket will be polling well enough to take part in the debates.

They will face President Barack Obama and likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney in November's general election.
