TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - "He came in and hit the mailbox over here and tried to go through right here but I don't know, for sure, how he did circles right here in the yard," said Drew Buckworth.
The tire tracks in the yard at 103 Pineview Lane show it all. Buckworth's neighbors watched as a tan Chevy Blazer drove through his yard Monday afternoon.
The tire tracks are the least of the damage. The SUV hit Buckworth's well pump.
"It costs around $1,200 to fix. Luckily, he didn't damage it fully because five more inches down, they said he would have contaminated the water," said Buckworth.
Buckworth's neighbors saw the whole thing and called the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. Their description of the SUV matches the description of Travis McCurry's vehicle, the one that crashed into a pond while pulling out of the Meijer parking lot Monday afternoon.
"Why did he come here and destroy the yard? Then end up in the Meijer pond because it's a good five minute drive from here," said Buckworth.
At the time, Lafayette Police officers said McCurry crashed into the pond because of unspecified medical issues.
As for Buckworth's incident, Sheriff's Deputies said McCurry told them he didn't remember doing it because he was having a seizure. Either way, Buckworth is just glad everybody was safe.
"I'm glad that nobody was hurt in this whole thing. Everybody was at school during the time so no kids were out," said Buckworth.
Deputies don't believe criminal mischief was a factor.
Back in February of 2009, News 18 reported that Travis McCurry crashed his ATV on South Springboro Road near the Tippecanoe-White County line. We reported that he suffered a head injury. Conservation Officers thought alcohol and speed were factors in that crash.
