TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A number of upset residents got their way at the Tippecanoe County Area Plan commission meeting Wednesday night.
Almost a dozen people people either wrote a letter or spoke out against a rezoning request of the land on the northeast corner where the Hoosier Heartland Highway meets old State Road 25. The owner is asking to change the zoning of land near County Road 300 North from residential to general business. He wants the tract closer to the highway to Industrial-3.
Most residents say they don't mind the general business request but they are against the industrial zoning. They got their way.
The APC voted to recommend the general business zoning to the County Commissioners and not recommend the industrial zoning.
"I'm pleased with the vote, very concerned with the potential of rezoning to I-3," said neighbor Chris Mobley. "Working for a chemical company I understand the risk of what can happen when you store chemicals outside."
The APC also approved construction plans for the Lafayette Community Bank branch planned to be built next to the new Faith West development on Northwestern Avenue. Officials say the branch could open as early as August.
The APC also added the area around Home Hospital into a nearby economic development area. Officials say this will allow the city to put in infrastructure in the area to help the buyer of the property.
