LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - Logansport police said they are used to responding to shootings. Detective DJ Sommers said he has seen more than usual in the past year.
Police responded to two more shootings in just 48 hours this weekend. They said they got the call of a reported shooting just after 12 a.m. Friday at a home in the 600-block of 13th Street.
Then, on Sunday police got another call of a shooting on B Street.
"Two in the same weekend draws your attention," Sommers said.
Sommers said in both cases shots were fired outside the homes. While bullets entered the houses no one was injured in either incident.
Right now Sommers said he is investigating the two separately, but is looking for links.
"[Police are looking at] whether it involves the same individual or whether it was retaliatory for the first [shooting]."
One reason police believe the shootings are related is because they say the targeted homes are not random.
"There have been incidents where known gang members are known to frequent these two residents," Sommers said. "They are two rival gangs."
Logansport police said these crimes could involve gangs. If so it would go against a trend in the city. Police said they have seen less gang activity in Logansport.
"Gang activity, gang presence has actually declined in the last year," Sommers said. "To have these type of incidents arise is not the norm."
Sommers said the investigation is in its infancy. However, he does have a description of a vehicle used in at least one of the shootings. He also has some people of interest.
