Twin Lakes School Corporation helps grieving students

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - We first heard about 6-year-old Jillian Haskins after finding out she was stabbed to death Saturday along with her mother in their Monticello home. At the time of her death, Jillian was a first grader at Woodlawn Elementary School in the Twin Lakes School Corporation.

Twin Lakes School Corporation Superintendent Tom Fletcher said even with the ongoing investigation into Jillian and Michelle's deaths, he wants to make sure those who knew Jillian get all the help they need.

"All our first graders are delightful kids," Fletcher said. "Jillian was a delightful young lady."

Fletcher invited different counselors to the school to help grieving kids, parents and teachers.

"There are private places set up for our parents," Fletcher said. "They were invited to come in and meet [Monday] morning to go over things with grief counselors. There is a private place for our students and teachers during the day."

Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into Jillian and Michelle's deaths. Jillian's half-brother and Michelle's son, David Scott Rodenbarger, was arrested for the crime.

Police believe he is the only suspect. But they said they could use the public's help.

"If the public does know anything about the victims or the subject we have in custody, and they know something they feel is important they could call us," Indiana State Police Sgt. Kim Riley said.

Rodenbarger is in the White County Jail. White County Prosecutor Bob Guy believes formal charges will be filed Tuesday morning at Rodenbarger's initial hearing.
