Traffic could increase during finals week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Finals week is close to wrapping up and the area could see a traffic increase.

Many students could be headed out of town for Christmas break while others could have their families visiting for commencement.

Matt Devine with Lafayette police isn't expecting a huge increase in traffic, but there could still be some congestion near major roadways.

Additionally, Devine says drivers should have an increased awareness due to drivers unfamiliar with the area.

"Be a little bit more aware that there's going to be increased traffic. There's going to be out-of-town travelers that might not be as familiar with our streets," said Devine.

"Just keep that in mind and maybe be a little bit more patient if someone is driving slowly and it looks like they are trying to figure out which way they want to turn or where they want to go."

Commencement is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 16.
