BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (WLFI) - When it comes to serving our community, Charles Molter, known by many in the area as "Chuck," has gone above and beyond the call of duty for more than 30 years. Chuck was presented with the "Governor's Award for Excellence in Service" Saturday evening at the Battle Ground fire station.

He was responsible for establishing the Battle Ground Police Department and has been the Battle Ground Town Marshal since 1980. The award was presented as a way to show the community's appreciation, before Chuck retires at the end of December.

"It's a great honor, and I know other people deserve it as well," said Molter. "I made a lot of friends over the years, and we'll hope to still see each other and work together."

Chuck also served with the West Lafayette Police Department, and recently as a Tippecanoe County courthouse bailiff.
