"Tools for School" supply drive begins

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The annual "Tools for School" supply drive, sponsored by WLFI and the Salvation Army, begins on July 23.

Donation boxes can be found at all area Subway restaurants, Regions Banks, Payless grocery stores and at Sigma Medical Group.

Major Jim Irvine of the Salvation Army said the "Tools for School" drive supplied 800 students in the Tippecanoe County area with school supplies in 2011. Irvine said while all school supplies are appreciated, there are a few items that seem to be lacking every year.

"The hard to come by items are backpacks, usually because they are a little more costly," said Irvine. "Calculators are always the hard thing to come by, but think of any school supply that is needed."

The "Tools for School" drive will run until August 3, and supplies will be handed out at the Salvation Army in Lafayette on August 11, from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
