TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Since the voters couldn't decide, Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC) will make the choice to fill a vacancy.
Alan Kemper announced his retirement from the school board Wednesday, effective Jan. 8.
Kemper has represented District 5 of TSC, which covers Sheffield and Lauramie Townships, since 2001. He has also been a past president of the board.
TSC Counsel Mark DeYoung says the position was up for election this year. But Kemper didn't run again and no one put in a bid to replace him.
“It is unique this time, because, this vacancy, you could see it coming at the end of the elected term,” DeYoung said. “And, the seat was open for election and no one signed up to run for election.”
DeYoung says interested candidates can send a letter of interest to him via email or fax (765-742-8175) or mail.
Letters of interest should be sent to:
TSC Board of School Trustees
C/o TSC Corporation Counsel, Mark DeYoung
P.O. Box 1010
The Life Building
300 Main St., Suite 900
Lafayette, IN 47902
Here are the eligibility requirements as stated in TSC Bylaw 0142:
- You must be at least 21 years old
- You must be registered to vote
- You must be a high school graduate
- You must be a resident of the district you represent for 2 years immediately preceding the election (in this case, Sheffield or Lauramie Townships)
The board will make a decision for Kemper's replacement at the December 12th meeting.
You can find more information on the TSC website or from Superintendent Dr. Scott Hanback at (765) 474-2481.
