TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County is one of the 10 healthiest counties in Indiana according to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Hamilton, Hendricks and Boone Counties make up the top three. Tippecanoe County comes in at No. 8.
The County Health Rankings uses a standard formula to measure how healthy people are and how long they live.
State Health Commissioner Dr. William VanNess said Indiana still needs major improvements in areas like infant mortality, childhood immunizations, obesity and smoking, but the rankings help health officials determine which communities are struggling.
As for counties at the lower end of the list, Cass County is the lowest ranked county in the viewing area, coming in at number 55 out of 92. Scott County in southern Indiana came in last.
