Tippecanoe County Library receives grant

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe County Public Library is one out of 30 libraries in the country to receive a $2,500 grant.

The library is using the money granted by the American Library Association and Fetzer Institute to host a program called "Building Common Ground".

The program will host events that focus on bringing diverse groups of people in the community closer together.

The library will team up with the Division of Diversity and Inclusion at Purdue and the Diversity Round Table of Greater Lafayette Commerce.

Dr. Christine Taylor from Purdue hopes this program will help bring the community closer.

“I think that the whole initiative is to be applauded because it really is a proactive initiative. Are things perfect here? No, nothings perfect anywhere but the fact of the matter is that we are saying we want to make it better than what it is. I think that is to be applauded and that we're thinking down the road about how do we make this a better place for everyone,” said Dr. Taylor.

Some of the programs the library will be hosting are conversation circles that will help people gain skills to talk about their differences as well book discussions that focus on diversity.
