TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe County Commissioners voted Tuesday to hire a new deputy prosecutor.
County Prosecutor Pat Harrington says his office has faced an increased work load over the last five years. He says it's due to the increased number of probation violations.
Harrington also says the county is growing, and with it grows the number of those on community corrections. He hopes the new position will help with the work increase.
"What we've noticed in the last five years is a dramatic increase in paper litigation with our office,” Harrington said. “This is due to the fact that more and more individuals are sentenced to community corrections and probation. When those people violate, our office has to prosecute that case again and those numbers have increased."
The next step for the new hire is final approval by the County Council.
Also at the commissioner's meeting, a one-year salary contract was approved for Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown. Brown’s salary is $106,000.
