LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Soldiers played host and waited on tables at an area restaurant Tuesday night for a good cause.
Heroes dressed in camouflage were at Arni's at Market Square mall in Lafayette serving food, meeting and seating customers.
It was all a part of the "Tip-a-Soldier" event where the Indiana Gold Star Mother's teamed up with Arni's to collect donations to send World War Two veterans to their memorial in Washington D.C. for a day at no cost.
Back in April, nearly 90 World War Two veterans were a part of Lafayette's first Honor Flight, and there are two more scheduled for this year.
"It's all for a great cause. It's to raise money for Honor Flight. We take our World War Two veterans to Washington DC to see their memorial at no cost to them and we do all the fundraising to pay for our trip," Gold Star Mother, Dana Vann said.
The "Tip-A-Soldier" Tuesday night at Arni's brought in a little more than $3,000 for the upcoming Honor Flights September 24 and October 15.
Each flight costs roughly $65,000 and is based completely on donations.
