ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - The Fountain County coroner has confirmed three people – a man and two small children – did not make it out of a house that was on fire early Tuesday morning. Two pets were also casualties.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after midnight. The house is located in the 300 block of West Washington Street in Attica. Flames and heavy smoke could be seen at least a block away.

Several departments were called in to help. Those crews included Williamsport, Mellott and West Point. Crews worked for eight hours to put out the fire.

This afternoon, the Attica Fire Department confirmed that an adult male had died in the fire along with an 18-month-old child and a 3 year old. Two dogs were also killed in the fire.

Officials say the fire was so powerful that investigators were not able to get inside the home to reach the deceased until 7 a.m.

The cause remains under investigation. Investigators say the bodies of the deceased are unrecognizable.

The names of the deceased have not been released at this time.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
