The oldest gathering of descendants of area settlers takes over town

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) - The oldest gathering of descendants of area settlers will be taking place in Delphi this weekend. And what better way to celebrate than with carnival fun.
    
Delphi's annual Old Settlers kicked off Wednesday evening.

The first meeting of Delphi's settlers was in 1855 and the tradition has continued since then. Family members of those settlers will meet up on Saturday to celebrate 157 years. Until Saturday, carnival rides, music, and food have taken over downtown Delphi.

"The carnival and the vendor booths and the uptown festival is in conjunction with the annual Old Settlers Meeting which is the oldest running meeting in the state of Indiana," Dale Seward, Delphi Chamber of Commerce.

"It's bringing a lot of people that may not normally travel to Delphi in the evenings or maybe have never even been to Delphi or are new to the area," said Paige Keys, owner of Allure Salon and Day Spa.

"It's all over the United States. We've had some come even from out of the United States," said Phyllis Porter of the Carroll County Historical Society.

If you missed opening night at Old Settler, don't worry. The festival will be taking place Thursday and Friday evenings and all day Saturday.
