The governor makes a stop in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - "This is an effort for us to continue to make job creation job one and I think that all begins by making sure our administration is connected to the people that are really making this economy work," Gov. Mike Pence said.

Pence made a stop at Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) in Lafayette Friday to meet with local business leaders and politicians. On the agenda, discussing opportunities for job creation. Something Pence said Tippecanoe County companies have been excelling at.

"It's about going from good to great," Pence said. "It's about helping to build on the progress we've made and Tippecanoe County is an example in Indiana where you've got a lot of exciting things happening, but we really believe the opportunity is there to build that momentum."

The governor also discussed opportunities to expand vocational education programs for high school students with members of the round table. Members of the round table included local state senators and representatives.

While the governor was at SIA Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann was touring Nanshan in Lafayette. Ellspermann, a Purdue grad, said the kind of industry found in Tippecanoe County is what she hopes can spread across the state.

"This is a fabulous example of the kind of industry we want to grow in Indiana with high-tech aluminum extrusion happening right here in Lafayette," Ellspermann said. "The plant has the best equipment in the world. It will be one of the most high-tech facilities with nearly 200 good paying jobs for Lafayette and Tippecanoe County people."

Pence also made stops in Valparaiso and Merrillville Friday afternoon.
