LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - It's a bittersweet time for some 4-H'ers as fair week dwindles down.
"It's definitely sad, it's kind of a bittersweet feeling," said 10-year 4-H member, Riley Mineart.
The maximum amount of years you can be in 4-H is ten. Therefore, Mineart's 4-H journey has come to an end.
Mineart sold her last pig in Friday's annual livestock auction at the Tippecanoe County Fair. She said the auction symbolizes that the end is near. She wouldn't trade fair week for the world.
"The week of the fair is the best but it's the friends that I make. You get to spend a whole week with them all day, every day and you get to be with your animals too," said Mineart.
Even though Mineart will never attend another fair as a 4-H member or never again walk her pig past a 4-H judge, she said she wants the fair to still be a part of her life.
"Unfortunately, I'll never get that opportunity again but I want to stay as involved as I can," said Mineart.
Another 10-year 4-H'er who can't believe it's all coming to an end is Ethan Dale. Dale showed dairy cows during his time in 4-H. He said he's been raising this year's animals for two years now, so it was hard to send them off Friday.
"It's a little weird since I've been doing this for ten years and now I don't have animals," said Dale.
Even though Dale parted ways with his cows and is headed off to college, he knows the comfort of farm animals won't be too far away.
"I live on a big farm, so I'll always have that to come home to," said Dale.
All the animals and 4-H projects will be gone by Saturday. However, there are some fun events happening at the fair.
It's 4-H Family Special Day at the Carnival on Saturday. This means all rides only take one ticket and tickets are $1.50 each.
At 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, cars will be revving up to kick of this year's Demolition Derby. At 7:00 p.m., country singers Karli Edging and Levi Riggs will take the stage at the coliseum.
