MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - The White County Tea Party Patriots brought fourth congressional district candidate Todd Rokita to its meeting, continuing its attempt to educate voters.

"Investigate the candidates and really see where their principles lie. If they are in line with the constitution," said White County Tea Party administrator Anna Kroyman.

Members of the White County Tea Party Patriots packed the USA Restaurant in Monticello, ready to question Secretary of State Todd Rokita, who is running for the office of U.S. Representative for the fourth congressional district. Kroyman said the group has over 150 members since it began in January. She said they want to know the candidates.

"We are hoping to influence the election in a positive way and bring in candidates that are constitutionally and fiscally responsible and stick to our constitution," said Kroyman.

Members questioned Rokita about the budget, the economy and healthcare. Rokita said his number one priority is healthcare and next on the list is getting fresh faces into congress.

"Doing everything I can to get a large, freshman class there, that are doing and saying the same things I'm saying. And if we can get a the car keys back, I don't intend to give those car keys to any Republican or Democrat or anyone else that is going to take us back to the last decade or before," said Rokita.

Rokita also told the group that he is running in one of the most gerrymandered districts in the state.

"It's wrong. So you can continue to see me fight for this because the people need to have the power, not the politicians," added Rokita

Next Monday the White County Tea Party Patriots will host Rokita's opponent Democrat David Sanders. Kroyman says they are the first Tea Party to host a Democratic candidate.
