Taste of Tippecanoe: Gibson's Shaved Ice

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Gibson's Shaved Ice is a familiar site for many in our area and will be a hot spot this weekend at the Taste of Tippecanoe.

"When I grew up with snow cones, it was crushed ice and flavors, you ate the ice, drank the flavors. With this, it's actually snow," comments owner Mike Gibson.

Gibson's features over 40 flavors.

With warm temperature expected in the forecast, this "snow" will be the perfect way to cool down.

"It's going to be hot, you're going to want to have something cool and refreshing and they need to try it," he adds.

Gibson's is celebrating 12 seasons of helping Lafayette beat the heat.

With so many flavors and such a unique preparation process, it's easy to see why they've been in business for so long.

"We basically take a block of ice, run it through a shaver, and we can shave to where we can actually throw snow balls, we're one of the few people who in 90 degree heat can throw a snow ball ," notes Gibson.

The "Sunshine Group" from Harrison High School will work the Gibson's Shaved Ice booth this year at the Taste of Tippecanoe. A donation will be made to the students to benefit Riley Hospital for Children.
