WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Gold Star Mom, along with The University's College of Agriculture, is spearheading a gathering Thursday to honor and give respect to Army Sgt. Kyle Osborn.

Sgt. Osborn, a Lafayette native and McCutcheon High School alum, was killed in the line of duty Sept. 13 in Afghanistan.

His family will receive him Thursday morning at Purdue Airport. Out of respect for Sgt. Osborn's family, the arrival at Purdue Airport is private.

But you can pay your respects in another way.

Gold Star Mom Pamela Mow, who also works for Purdue's College of Agriculture, tells News 18 she has invited the community to help welcome home Sgt. Osborn as his family transports him to Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette.

Mow says at roughly 10:10 a.m. Thursday, the community is encouraged to gather along State Street in West Lafayette near Purdue, all the way across the State Road 26 bridge and into Lafayette.

Mow works in Lilly Hall of Life Sciences, so that's where she says she'll be to welcome Sgt. Osborn. And she says she hopes others will do the same.

"I hope you will be able to take this opportunity to thank this family for their tremendous sacrifice and the sacrifice that Kyle made for each one of us as he proudly served our country in the United States Army," Mow said. "It means more than you will ever know to see others appreciate our fallen heroes and their families."

Mow said Sgt. Osborn's aunt and uncle Dean and Catherine Edging are part of the Purdue family, and privacy is important at both the airport and the funeral home.
