Students get back to normal after bus crash

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Some familiar faces rode the bus to school with students Monday morning, after a bus carrying children to Clinton Prairie elementary school rolled over last week.

Administrators of the school spent their morning making sure students felt safe on their way to school after Friday's accident.

The accident left a few students injured, but they were happy to return to normalcy.

"A lot of smiles on the bus this morning,” Clinton Prairie Elementary Principal Joe Walker said. “The kids were very happy to be back with their friends and see their friends on the bus."

But it wasn't just children who rode the bus Monday.

Several administrators took the trip to school on the bus with the children, making sure they felt safe after Friday's accident.

"It helped kids have a familiar face on the bus and feel a little bit more comfort,” Superintendent of Clinton Prairie Schools Chris Sampson said. “Their original bus driver was driving today, which I think eased some of their fears."

"Most of the parents walked the kids out to the bus today,” Walker said. “There were a lot of hugs, not any tears, but a lot of smiles to see everybody and get everybody back on the bus. It went wonderful. We couldn't ask for a better morning to get the kids back on the bus and back into the school situation. It was a great morning."

Clinton Prairie administrators say counselors will also be available as needed for students still shaken up from Friday's crash.

"It’s just a matter of letting the kids express themselves so they can feel better about the situation and know that although we are all very lucky in this situation that we're here for them and that's our No. 1 goal this week,” Walker said.

Right now, all children from the bus have been released from the hospital and they returned back to school Monday morning. The bus crash remains under investigation.
