Storms leave mark across area, knocking out power

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Strong storms moving through the area Monday morning and overnight Sunday, caused a series of outages and even flooding in parts of the area.

Lafayette Police Department reported a several outages around 5:45 a.m. Monday. They said a transformer blew at 4th and Romig Streets.

According to Duke Energy's website , there are several hundred outages in Warren County as of 6:30 a.m.

NIPSCO's website was reporting hundreds of outages in Benton and White Counties, also as of 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Heavy rain has forced the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 to close in Newton County.

According to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, high water covered the roadway on U.S. 41, south of U.S. 24. The northbound lanes were closed through much of the morning rush hour.

Northbound U.S. 41 has since been reopened.
