CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) - Draining of the lake at Crawfordsville's Sportsmen's Club has brought the lake down approximately 3 feet.

Draining began on Wednesday of last week and has continued around the clock.

With about 6 inches being siphoned each day, it looks like the goal of 6 feet being drained will occur by this coming Sunday.

Six feet is the standard set by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) due to the club's dam not being up to code.

Once draining is complete, the club has one year to either remove or repair the dam at a minimum estimated cost of $300,000.

Club president Charlotte Daron says she has already noticed dead fish, but that she hopes to be able to rescue a majority of them.

The club is still looking for help fundraising to repair the dam.

Their hay rides, carnival and haunted house will provide be open to the public Oct.19, 20, 26 & 27.

Club memberships are available at a discounted price of $20.

For more information, you can call Sportsmen's Club at (765) 362-2084.
