LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI_ - Individuals and businesses are encouraged to create displays showing Purdue spirit.

Contest winners will be announced each week based by votes or Facebook "likes."

Boilermaker cheerleaders raised a flag at the Tippecanoe County courthouse to get things started.

In addition to flying flags, West Lafayette mayor John Dennis had another idea on on how he and Lafayette mayor Tony Roswarski can help the football team.

"Tony, I still think, has one year of college eligibility left to play football.  I've got four and with a body like this, I think I can make Bart Burrell's record look like nothing," said Dennis.

SpiritMakers will run throughout Purdue's 2012 football season.

People are encouraged to fly a Purdue flag through September first, then on the weekend of all home football games.

More details on SpiritMakers can be found at boilermakerdepot.com .
