SIA celebrates 25th Anniversary

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - 25 years. That's how long the Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant has been in Lafayette, and Saturday,  the company took the day to celebrate.

Community members were invited to visit the plant and see what goes occurs on a daily basis. Attendees were given a tour of the SIA facility, in order to thank them for their support over the years.

SIA spokesperson Jennifer McGarvey said the company usually only gives tours of certain parts of the plant due to safety reasons. She said Saturday, community members and family members were able to get a more-behind-the-scenes look.

"This is a time that we were able to rope off a lot of areas to make sure it's safe for everyone, but you can go all the way from our stamping shop, our body shop, all the way back out to engine, which is something the public doesn't normally get to see," said McGarvey.

McGarvey said the celebration doesn't just last Saturday, it will be a year-long event. She said SIA will also hold a fundraiser 5K run-walk in October, and the funds will be used to build a safe haven home.
