Sheriff: Body could be missing Crawfordsville woman

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Montgomery County authorities continue to investigate after a body is discovered in Sugar Creek Thursday afternoon.

Montgomery County Sheriff Mark Casteel said a woman's body was found just before 1 p.m.

Casteel said the sheriff's office, Crawfordsville police and Indiana State Police responded to the scene, which was about two miles west of the U.S. 231 bridge in Crawfordsville.

He said conservation officers and Crawfordsville firefighters helped the coroner recover the body.

One Crawfordsville family was emotional Thursday night after hearing the news about the body.

That's because about five days ago, a member of their family went missing and has yet to be found.

According to family members, 41-year-old Gina Evans of Crawfordsville went missing early Sunday morning.

Family members said she disappeared, leaving her keys, phone and even her 15-year-old daughter at home.

Casteel said he can confirm the sheriff's office has been looking for Evans, but said the female body discovered on Thursday has not been identified.

He said an autopsy is scheduled for 8 Friday morning.
