LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Some Lafayette green-thumbs can get to work on their brown yards and save a little extra green.
The Lafayette Common Council passed a one-month extension of the summer sewage rate.
Mayor Tony Roswarski said it encourages people to do the yard repairs they need in the fall after this summer's drought without having to worry about an extra large sewage bill -- a bill tied to how much water a customer uses.
"If their yards did burn all the way up, if they have to re-seed, they've got dead trees that need to be replanted in the fall, we certainly encourage people to do that if they can," he said. "We want to make watering of all that which keeps our city beautiful as easy for them as possible since it was such a unique year."
As NewsChannel 18 first previewed last week, the council also passed the first reading of next year's $53.2 million budget.
The budget includes a 2-percent raise for all city employees, including the council.
A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for the beginning of next month's council meeting on Oct. 1.
