GOODLAND, Ind. (WLFI) - U.S. Senator Dick Lugar made a stop in Newton County Tuesday afternoon.

Senator Lugar joined several Goodland residents and town officials at the Goodland Family Restaurant to discuss plans and his efforts to help the town build a new water tower. The tower collapsed in November.

Since the collapse, Lugar said he's been working to get nearly $150,000 in federal grant money to build a replacement.

"It's a human emergency. It's the water supply It's very basic to human beings day by day a part from the fire prevention aspects," U.S. Senator, Dick Lugar said.

Town officials said they're still working with their insurance company to receive other funds to replace the water tower.

The price tag for the entire project is estimated at nearly $1 million.

Senator Lugar faces a challenge in the Republican primary from Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
