Section of West Lafayette road to close for Major Moves project

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The U.S. 231 Bypass Project is starting a new leg of its journey.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says the right-hand lane of eastbound Sagamore Parkway in West Lafayette will be unusable for a while.

The closure will be from just west of Bethel Drive to just east of McCormick Road.

Crews will be putting in a new storm sewer along Sagamore and adding a right turn lane for the future intersection of U.S. 231 and Sagamore.

The lane will close starting Tuesday.

The closure is part of the $45.6-million Major Moves project, which is relocating U.S. 231 to just north of the Wabash River, continuing east of the Purdue Airport, and then northwest to State Road 26 near its intersection with Newman Road.

The bypass will connect with Sagamore just west of McCormick Road.

Construction began in spring of 2011, and the 5.3 miles of U.S. 231 is scheduled to be open to traffic by September of next year.

Head to INDOT’s website for more information.
