LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - It was a normal Monday afternoon for Amanda Ferguson. She was in the middle of her job as a shift manager at Speedway Gas Station in Lafayette when a customer approached her with an envelope.
It took the busy manager a while to open it.
"[When I opened it I was like], 'Oh my goodness,'" Ferguson said. "Inside the folded piece of paper was a $100 bill."
Ferguson wasn't the only one touched by the Speedway Secret Santa that day.
"He also gave them to four other customers in the parking lot," Ferguson said.
The $100 bill came with a note. The instructions reminded all recipients to pay it forward.
"It [said], 'Merry Christmas,'" Ferguson said. "It said, 'If you need this use it for whatever you need. If you don't give it to someone who needs it.'"
Ferguson used the money to buy her three sons some Christmas presents and pay some unexpected bills. She shared her experience on News 18's Facebook page.
"I wanted people to know there are nice people out there," Ferguson said.
People did take notice. As of Sunday afternoon the post had 2,325 likes and nearly 80 comments. Most of those comments commended the generous stranger.
"[The secret Santa] had short, blondish hair," Ferguson said. "I'm pretty sure he has glasses, and he was wearing a big jacket. That is all I remember. I guess from the letter that is all he wanted me to remember. It said, 'If you know me don't remember me.'"
Ferguson may not remember who her secret Santa was, but she has a message for him.
"Thank you so much for putting the Christmas spirit back into so many people's lives," Ferguson said.
A Christmas spirit full of giving.
