LAFAYETTE, Ind.(WLFI) - Students from three Lafayette schools got a special concert for raising money for local families.
Miami, Edgelea and Earhart elementary schools participated in the Family Services Penny Harvest campaign, a challenge to raise the most money in February.
The winning school got to host a concert by a band made up of all three schools' principals called "One Detention.”
Family Services CEO Rebecca Sullivan says she hopes the students learn from this experience.
"It was just so great to see kids having fun and doing something good for others. That was the best part,” Sullivan said.
"We were trying to raise excitement for helping out our community,” Earhart Elementary School Principal Greg Louk said. “It was just an idea that we had to get together and make fools of ourselves, and thought that might be something that motivates kids. These kids have great hearts. They want to help out and they enjoy having fun. I think this was a great event for them.”
The concert was webcasted to Miami and Edgelea elementary schools.
The schools raised more than $3,000 dollars to help troubled families and children receive counseling.
