School holds 18th annual apple pie sale

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette tradition kicked off Monday at Lafayette Christian School.

The annual apple pie sale brings together parents, students and teachers to assemble and sell more than 7,000 pies.

The proceeds from the sale help cover school costs. Volunteers said making the pies is a labor of love.

"I totally enjoy it. I have always had a lot of fun with all the people that you get to meet every year. I enjoy being able to do something for the school. It brings a lot of people in the community together. I love it. It's fun," Apple Pie co-chair Tara Krintz said.

"It's great comfort food," added Krintz. "Especially in the fall. On a cool crisp day, apple pie and vanilla ice cream, it doesn't get any better than that."

"Lafayette Christian School has been close to my heart for many, many years. It's wonderful when we can all come together for a good cause like this and raise money for the school. It's just really heart-warming. I love it," said LCS alumnus Phil Fisher said.

"It's a special recipe because it's made with a lot of love. That's the best part," said Apple Pie co-chair and kindergarten teacher Tina Eversman said.

"It profits $40,000 for our school to help keep our school running. On top of that, they are great-tasting pies. They are great for the holidays and we would just love to have everyone out to get one," said Krintz.

Due to the summer drought, apples had to be brought in from Georgia. The price for the pies went from $10 to $12 to cover the shipping cost.

You can purchase a pie at their drive-up window located in the school's parking lot.
