LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lines a mile long, long waits, and frustration, it's not another Black Friday story, it's an issue Lafayette area drivers have been facing for months on Sagamore Parkway.

Things may be changing for the stretch of Highway 52 sooner than you think.

We did the math, and it has taken drivers 5 to 9 times longer to exit West Lafayette and reach Duncan Road than when there is no backup.

We spoke with INDOT spokeswoman Debbie Calder Friday, and she said crews plan on having both sides of Sagamore Parkway back open the first week of December.

Drivers in the area are excited to hear the news.

One motorist said he's excited his commute time will be cut down about a half an hour.

Despite the extra travel Friday around the area, the congestion on Sagamore Parkway wasn't as bad as at has been in the past.

Taking Sagamore Parkway for Thanksgiving travel may have slowed you down Thanksgiving week, but things are looking to be much smoother in the area just in time for Christmas travel.
