Riggs receives donation

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Riggs Community Health Center announced a big donation from Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health.

Franciscan St. Elizabeth has donated the property on Hartford Street where Riggs currently sits.

The two health providers were originally involved in a 50-year lease agreement at just $1 a year.

However, Franciscan St. Elizabeth officials wanted to give the donation to assist Riggs Community Health Center in applying for federal grants.

"To own their property makes it a lot easier for them to work their way through that process," commented Terry Wilson, President and CEO of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health.

"It was the next step in the evolution of our partnership that they would turn the land over to us and help us to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization," added Veronique LeBlanc, President and CEO Riggs Community Health Center.

The land is valued at $688,600.

It was originally turned over in May of last year; however, the announcement was delayed so Riggs could work on plans for expansion.
