WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson is asking residents in areas affected by the winter storm to clear snow from around fire hydrants.
“Fire departments can’t find and clear every fire hydrant. They are taking care of fire and emergency medical response. Citizens must help. While you’re digging out from the snow, take a few extra minutes to clear nearby fire hydrants,” said Greeson.
Greeson adds this can save time, property and lives in an emergency.
“This will help fire departments and your neighbors in case of an emergency. Firefighters can more quickly find and access the water source provided by the hydrant," said Greeson.
Greeson also reminds Hoosiers to make sure house numbers are clear and visible.
“Blowing snow can cover house numbers. Take a few minutes to make sure they’re readable," said Greeson.
