RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) - A single vehicle crash on Friday in Newton County left a Rensselaer man dead.
According to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, at roughly 3:15 Friday afternoon, 34-year-old Eric Gross of Rensselaer drove off Meridian Road south of County Road 500 South where his vehicle struck a culvert causing it to roll.
Officers say Gross was not wearing his seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, alcohol was not believed to have been a factor of the crash, however, officers found several controlled substances at the scene that are believed to be related.
