Red Tail Squadron visits Purdue to spread an important message

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Rise Above exhibit is about the Tuskegee Airmen breaking the color barrier during World War II.

The traveling exhibit also focuses on rising above adversity.

Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron Leader and Purdue grad Bradford Lang said the program exposes students to an important part of America's history.    

Tuskegee Airman Colonel Charles McGee said he hopes students will be inspired to prepare for their futures.

"Let them realize that they are a part of the future and they're preparing themselves and what it means to find out their talents," McGee said. "Get an education and we also let them know that they don't need to let circumstances be an excuse for not achieving."

"We feel the Commemorative Air Force, that there's an important part to pass on and that's American history about the greatest generation and to have kids come out here and get a chance to meet an actual Airman, to actually see the type of airplane that they flew in World War II, and be exposed to some important values," Lang said.

The exhibit, held at the Purdue airport, will be open to the public at no charge from 3 to 5 p.m. in the afternoon Oct.12.
