WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Purdue Women's Air Race Classic team returned to the Purdue airport Monday morning, after finishing first in one leg of a cross country air competition.
Senior Pilot Chantel Steele and her co-pilot Amanda Keck placed 23rd out of 57 teams in the race. The team traveled almost 3,000 miles in four days, starting in Lake Havasu, Arizona and ending in Batavia, Ohio.
The duo left Arizona at 8:00 Tuesday morning and had to be in Ohio by 5:00 Friday evening. Both women said they couldn't have asked for a better teammate or a better experience.
"We work really well together and it was a great pairing," said Steele."We got along very well so, I couldn't have been happier."
"Really, you can only imagine how it would look flying over these mountains," said Keck. "I wish my eyes could take pictures, because it was gorgeous."
The team also received the Fastest Piper award and placed third in the eighth leg of the race.
