Purdue to introduce new art gallery site

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue University now has a more artistic presence in downtown Lafayette.

The University is leasing a building on Main Street across from the Tippecanoe County Courthouse for an art gallery.

The announcement was made with the Diego Rivera paining, "Head of a Woman," from Purdue Galleries' collection.

The gallery is expected to open in the spring semester of 2013.

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski said it will be nice to have Purdue in downtown Lafayette.

Purdue Galleries director Craig Martin said it will allow a lot of rarely seen art to be enjoyed.

“The nature of the exhibits is that we try to change them up. They range from regional, national and international artists and things from the collection as well as jury shows and invited shows,” said Martin.

Purdue is leasing the Perrin Building at 3-30 Main Street for at least five years.
