Purdue to ask for small increase in funding from state

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Finance Committee for the Purdue Board of Trustees met Thursday afternoon to approve the University's funding request from the state.

The committee approved the 2013-2015 legislative request for funds to operate. Some of these funds will help pay for a technical assistance program and a $10-million manufacturing center.

Purdue is requesting $313.4 million in operating funds. Executive Vice President of Business and Finance and Treasurer Al Diaz said that's a .3 percent increase over this year's appropriations.

"We've made a good start. I think there's a lot of evidence that we've been recognized for positive improvement and performance and we feel good about that," said Diaz.

The next step for the University will be to submit its request to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education in early September. The University will then formally present it in October.
