Purdue students deliver 'singing valentines' all over Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Some lucky valentines got quite the surprise from their sweetheart. Singers with Purdue Musical Organizations (PMO) delivered "singing valentines" to them at work, home and even over the phone.

"We are about to give a singing valentine to Bev Adams. She's a teacher here at Lafayette Jeff High School," said Taylor Young.

Young is a member of University Singers and she's also the team captain for one of the groups delivering singing valentines over the Lafayette area. Young's group calls themselves "The Love Tones."

NewsChannel 18 caught up with "The Love Tones" at Jeff High School, where a few teachers had no idea their special someone got so creative with a "singing valentine."

"The loved ones call in, request a singing valentine and we we come and give them a rose and a cookie and we sing them a valentine," said Young.

That's just what Bev Adams' husband did. Adams said she thought he'd forgotten about the holiday. He typically would leave a card for her in the morning, but this morning, there was no card.

Little did she know, when she arrived at work, she would soon get a surprise. "The Love Tones" performed "Can't Help Falling in Love" and delivered a rose, a cookie and a card from Bev's husband.

"Even after 34 years, he still remembers me!" Adams said, touched by his gesture.

It was moments like that which made spending the day singing valentines worthwhile to the students involved in PMO.

"Sometimes people cry and it just, it gives you a good feeling and we're just glad we can spread the love," said Young.

Spread the love they will. Students with PMO plan to deliver more than 500 "singing valentines" this Valentine's Day. Each "singing valentine" cost $30 and each order was placed in advance. Proceeds benefit Purdue Musical Organizations.
