WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue students Haley Mummert and Stuart Shippee were crowned this year’s Homecoming queen and king during a Friday pep rally.
They will appear as the royal couple for the first time at Saturday’s Homecoming festivities, including the football game’s halftime celebration.
Mummert is a senior studying management. She is from Kokomo, Ind.
Shippee is a senior from King George, Va., who is studying aeronautical engineering.
The two were picked online by student votes and by formal interviews held by a judging panel comprising faculty, staff, students, alumni and community leaders.
Members of the queen's court are Kirsten Clawson of Princeton, Ill., Laura Donaldson of Kentland, Ind., Tara Driscoll of Mokena, Ill., Kendra Julian of West Lafayette, Ind., Molly Longest of Carmel, Ind., and Allison Willis of Cincinnati.
Members of the king's court are Brad Barnett of Georgetown, Ind., Addison Bradford of Indianapolis, Peter Chen of West Lafayette, Ind., Jacob Mattox of New Albany, Ind., Jude Nwaokobia of Onicha-Ugbo, Nigeria, and Curtis Wassum of Orchard Park, N.Y.
