Purdue groups join to promote equality

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - March is Women's History Month and several groups at Purdue took action for equality.

The Women's Study  program at Purdue led the rally Friday.

The rally celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the women's movement.

Several other campus organizations including the Asian American Association, the Feminist Action Coalition and Alpha Kappa Alpha were represented as well.

Director of Women's Studies at Purdue TJ Boisseau says events like these are important to have on college campuses.

"It's important that universities are sites of free speech and are sites where people come to know what it means to organize and to be heard and to be visible," Boisseau said.  "This is just the beginning for many of the students here."

Boisseau hopes the students involved today will continue to let their voices be heard.
