WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One Purdue student just participated in a competition she says was an unbelievable experience, and she almost made it to the top 10.

MerrieBeth Cox, the current Golden Girl and Miss Indiana, is back in West Lafayette following the Miss America Pageant.

The Roselle, Ill., native placed in the top 12, bowing out of the competition before showing her talent of baton twirling.

Cox says although the pageant was on national television she feels like the same person.

“A couple of my friends have joked saying, 'You're famous, oh my gosh.' But, I really don't think so,” Cox said. “I mean, it's the same old MerrieBeth, going to classes, trying to figure out what's going on in classes, and studying and working hard.”

Cox is currently in her fifth year at Purdue.
