LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - From black and gold to red and green, some Purdue basketball players spent Wednesday evening spreading some holiday cheer.

Players were paired up with families from the Greater Lafayette area to do a little Christmas shopping. Players used money from their per diems to provide gifts for kids and families in need. It was all part of a partnership with Lafayette Family Services.

Senior DJ Byrd said it's great to give back during the holiday season.

“We come here and let families shop around for whatever they need whether it be groceries, toys, diapers, anything. It's nice to come out here and help these families out,” Byrd said.

As for the gold and black, after a victory last night against Ball State, the Boilers now get a little break until after Christmas.

They'll be back on the court at Mackey on Dec. 29 to face William and Mary.
