PURDUE UNIVERSITY, Ind. (WLFI) - While at Purdue, Armstrong was a member of the band and continued to be an active alumnus.

Band director Jay Gephart says the band will honor Armstrong during their pre-game show.  Gephart says patriotic songs like 'I am an American' and the National Anthem with be devoted to Armstrong.

He says band members feel they have a special connection with Neil Armstrong.

"There's a huge amount of ownership within this band for Neil Armstrong for what he did for Purdue University and that he was a member of our band. You know, our students take a great deal of pride in the fact that they sit in the very rehearsal room where Neil Armstrong rehearsed," Gephart said.

The pre-game show will start shortly before the Boilermaker football team takes on Eastern Kentucky at 3:30 p-m Saturday in Ross Ade Stadium.
